Termite Treatment Documentation
Durable Notice
A Durable Notice is a form of termite control advice, that is a requirement under the Australian Standard 3660 (Australian Standard for termite management existing structures) and also the National Construction Code volume 2 part 3.1.3 termite risk management. Notices are to be installed in the kitchen cupboard and power meter box area following the application of a Termiticide, or other termite control measure.
They are required where work is carried out on new construction and also for existing structures. In essence these notices advise that there have been termite controls installed, the type of termite control measure installed, the agent or Termiticide applied, the date of the treatment and the details of the contractor who carried the workout. Durable notices are the first phase of documentation and are not specific nor do they provide concise details about what has been done.
Up until around the year 2000, when the Australian Standard for termite management was revised and reissued, the placement of these notices, and in general the documentation for termite control measures, was not of the highest standard nor reliable and accurate. From that time however until present day, there has been an increase in awareness from termite control technicians/contractors, about the need to provide this documentation, and a greater focus within the industry in general to ensure the quality and accuracy of information provided is of far better standard.
Certificates of Installation & Termite Treatments
Actual and concise information regarding any termite control measure that has been carried out is provided within the other mandatory documentation required for work related to termite control installation. These are referred to as a Certificate of Installation (for new construction) or Certificate of Termite Treatment (for existing structures). Only these certificates should be referred to when you are seeking clarification or information on what termite controls are in place at a property.
