Flat Tray Metal Roofing

There are generally 2 types of metal roofing designed to allow for water run off where there is little or not pitch to gutters.  The first type has the technical name “Trapezoidal” and it can have either close or wide centred ribs approximately 30mm high and one of its more common brand names is ‘Trimdek’.  This sheeting should be fitted with a minimum pitch (fall to gutter) of 3 degrees.  ‘Trimdek ’type sheeting can also be used on high pitch roofs and should be available in Colorbond.  There is another roof material designed for flat tray roofing and this has high narrow ribs approx. 50mm high with one brand name of ‘Klip-Lok’.  This material should be fitted with a minimum pitch (fall to gutter) of 1 degree.  ‘Trimdek’ is fixed onto the roof framing from the outside using roof screws and is commonly found on garages, and patios but it can also be used on houses.  It is usually made from zincalume and is available in Colorbond.  In the 1970s a light-weight aluminium type ‘Trimdek’ was produced but this was found to dent easily and was not compatible with roof screws etc. and its production was discontinued. The older high rib variety is mainly made from galvanised metal and is commonly found where there is a long span to gutter and many unit blocks built during the 1970-80s have this type of roof cover which can be laid with a minimum 1 degree roof pitch. It is now more commonly found on commercial buildings and is available in zincalume.  For more specialised advice on the condition of this roof including maintenance and/or replacement costs, please refer to QBCC licensed roofer of choice.
